Our story
A quarter century of building telecom back-office software, all from Dallas, Texas.
RiverRock Systems began in early 1998 when CapRock Communications Corporate and Thompson Technology, Inc. (TTI) formed a strategic partnership. The arrangement gave CapRock the back-office capabilities it needed to grow and gave TTI a live environment to develop business solutions for an increasingly competitive generation of communications providers.
At the time, CapRock was an emerging IXC rapidly expanding its long-distance wholesale and retail businesses. It quickly became clear that the existing back-office systems could not keep up. CapRock contracted TTI to build a system that could offload the critical portion of the wholesale business. TTI responded with a high-speed, feature-rich, customer-centric tiered rating, billing, and accounting system — complete with APIs that connected seamlessly to the pre-existing billing platform.
As TTI's platform proved itself, and as the Telecommunications Act of 1996 reshaped the industry, TTI and CapRock decided to invest in extending the application into a full Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) solution. The open-architecture system was designed to be leading-edge, distributed, convergent, and scalable. With those requirements and CapRock's backing, RiverRock Systems, Ltd. was formed in June 1998 as a limited partnership between CapRock and TTI.
In 2000, CapRock merged with McLeodUSA. RiverRock Systems bought back the original CapRock investment and became solely owned — and has remained privately held and independently operated ever since.
